Western Australia’s Pilbara Coast and its thriving hub of Karratha are home to large mining and industry facilities. Dampier was established in 1963 and Karratha 1969, both due to the commencement of iron ore and salt operations in the region. The town of Wickham was built 1970 to house employees from Cliffs Robe River Iron Associates Cape Lambert Operation. Now booming industries, this area is often referred to as the ‘Engine Room of the Nation’.
