With support from the Department of Regional Development and Lands via the Country Local Government Fund, the Pilbara Regional Council has installed a series of functional and visually-appealing roadside rest stops across the Pilbara. These rest stops aim to enhance the amenity for tourists and residents, offering shelter, ablution facilities, and information on the surrounding region. Selected rest stops will also be equipped with WiFi access points. Each Welcome Rest Stop has its own distinctive artwork laser-cut into its steel canopy. The designs were developed in creative workshops with local Indigenous artists, each interpreting the concepts of shelter and meeting place. More information on these new stops, including their locations / GPS coordinates can be found on the Pilbara Regional Council’s dedicated Welcome Rest Stops website.
