Regarded by some as one of the best race meetings in the North West, Roebourne Cup Day is a true spectacle and is always well supported by the local Pilbara communities. The seven event card never fails to please the punters and in more recent years the race meeting has gained exposure all round Australia via Sky Channel. Regularly attracting over 4,000 racegoers the day always finishes with one of the biggest two up games in the state. There are three feature races on the day, the Publicans Purse (1200m) and the Settlers Handicap (1200m) were two of the original races ever run by the Nor West Jockey Club under WATC rules in 1863. The first Roebourne Cup (2200m) was originally the Roebourne Plate ran in 1889 over the two miles (3200m).
